The best sights of Madrid

Madrid is a fascinating city and there are many things to see. Here is a list of some of Madrid's most popular sights.

Retiro Park

Enjoy this beautiful park during your stay in Madrid!

What Central Park is in New York and Vondelpark is in Amsterdam is The Buen Retiro Park (Parque del Buen Retiro) in Madrid. This beautiful park is located in the heart of the city, just behind the Prado Museum, one of the most popular attractions of Madrid.

The Buen Retiro Park is one of the  major amusement parks, recreational space and sports in the capital, it features 118 hectares where you will find monuments, gardens, lakes and even a theater. It is one of the biggest fads of the European monarchy.

Visitors will discover unique works as the only statue in the world dedicated to the devil, the fallen angel and the Crystal Palace. The central basin is one of the only original park spaces.

The park has a beautiful rose garden and throughout the park you will find banks to take breaks after sports or just have a relaxing time. In the center of the park are two buildings known as the Palacio de Velázquez and Crystal Palace.

The park has several entries located in the Plaza de la Independencia, Alcalá Street, O'Donnell Street and Calle de Alfonso XII.

As a curiosity, the park has the oldest tree in the city: the "bald cypress" or Ahuehuete as many call it.

The Buen Retiro Park is a great place for those who want to disconnect from the routine, either by taking a moment to relax under one of its trees , for a picnic or just exercising.

During your visit to the park do not forget to go through these five essential points: The Buen Retiro Pond, Palacio de Velázquez (extension of the Reina Sofia Museum), The Crystal Palace, The Ride of the Statues and the Chopera, place to visit if you love football (there are football pitches for hire).
