The Amsterdam city council requires every tourist to pay 5% of city tax on accommodation and they will use this to improve city and its facilities.
In Amsterdam, taxes are levied, as in many other municipalities in the Netherlands. The proceeds will benefit the general funds of the municipality. City tax is levied on accommodation within the city by non-inhabitants of Amsterdam. Its amount is a fixed percentage of the night (5%) for non-inhabitants of Amsterdam.
