Golf Coast

The Costa del Sol is undoubtedly related to golf, so much so that it is also now known as the “Golf Coast”.

Many of the golf courses are concentrated along the coast of the province of Málaga with more than 45, offering first class golf recognised in all of Europe. In Malaga, Marbella and Mijas, on the western side of Costa del Sol, are those which offer the most  golf infrastructure. There are also many gold courses along the eastern side of the Costa del Sol and towards the interior in Valle del Guadalhorce and Antequera.

The key to its success is the good climate, which allows golfers to enjoy the sport all year round, and the variety of courses regarding both the nº of holes and design. The installations differ between one golf course to another and vary from those located next to the sea to those to the interior with rolling hills 'Scottish style', and north American style to those with a mixture of styles. The result is a surprising offer of golf courses in terms of technicality, sport and scenery.

Due to all of this the area of Malaga has played host to many important national and international competitions including Spanish Open, The World Championship, Volvo Master and the Ryder Cup and the European Association of Golf Professionals (PGA) is based here.

In recent years golf, considered an elitist sport, has captured the interest of people from differing social backgrounds. In Malaga the prices are competitive and many golf course offer starter classes to higher level classes.
